Vattenfall has acquired a wind development project consisting of up to 79 turbines in the German North Sea. The acquisition is in line with Vattenfall’s growth strategy to extensively expand its renewable energy production in the coming years. “The acquisition underlines once more that our growth ambitions in wind are under full steam. As a company we are on a good way to reshape our generation portfolio towards more renewable energies in all our markets”, says Gunnar Groebler, Senior Vice President and Head of Business Area Wind at Vattenfall.

European Offshore Wind Attracts Record €14bn New Investment in First Half 2016

The European offshore wind industry attracted a record €14 billion in new investments during the first six months of 2016, as the key trends and statistics from WindEurope show. Giles Dickson, CEO of WindEurope, said: “The record investment numbers show a clear industry commitment to offshore wind. We expect installations will pick up significantly in 2017 but there are a lot of challenges out there still on offshore wind. Not least the uncertainty over future volumes and regulation in many key markets for the period after 2020. We’re a long way from being able to say job done on offshore wind.”

Vestas Wins 278MW Wind Turbines Order From E.ON, USA

Vestas has received a firm and unconditional order from E.ON for 139 V110-2.0 MW wind turbines. The order includes supply and commissioning of the wind turbines as well as a multi-year service agreement. “We are excited to be working with Vestas on this turbine purchase as E. ON expands its U.S. portfolio,” said Patrick Woodson, Chairman of E.ON North America. Nacelles, blades, and towers will be produced at Vestas’ Colorado factories with delivery expected to begin in the second quarter of 2017 and commissioning planned for the fourth quarter of 2017.

New $1Bn Wind Project: Part Of Alliant Energy’s Vision For Clean Energy In Iowa

Iowans will soon see a significant increase in clean, economical wind generation from Alliant Energy. Alliant Energy CEO Patricia Kampling and Gov. Terry Branstad announced the utility will invest approximately $1 billion to expand its wind energy operations in the state. In the 25 year period to 2030, Alliant Energy is targeting a 40% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions. In addition, the project will generate tens of millions of dollars in property taxes, and result in more than 1,500 jobs at the height of construction, boosting Iowa’s economy while supporting customers seeking to use more renewable energy.

Duke Energy Renewables has announced its monitoring and control center now serves more than 3,500 megawatts of wind and solar energy plants across the U.S. since it opened in its new location in 2015. As a result of this rapid growth, the center is further enhancing its cyber security and other capabilities.

Morocco Accelerates With 120MW Vestas Wind Energy Project

The Khalladi wind park will be the first renewable energy project financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in Morocco, that allows private producers to sell electricity (through PPAs) to industry. In addition to EBRD, the project is co-financed by the Moroccan bank BMCE and Argan Infrastructure Fund, an Africa-focused infrastructure fund managed by Infra Invest. The contract comprises the supply of the turbines as well as a 20-year service agreement.

New York State To Generate 50% Of Its Electricity From Clean Energy By 2030

The third-largest state economy in the US will soon obtain half of its electricity needs from renewable energy thanks to a new measure approved by the New York Public Service commission. The Empire State’s new Clean Energy Standard will diversify the state’s electricity by requiring utilities and other energy suppliers to procure over 26 percent of the state’s electricity mix with clean and renewable energy resources, including solar and wind power, in 2017, and over 30 percent by 2021, rising to 50 percent by 2030.

EON Enables Digital Realty To Be 100% Clean Energy Powered

E.ON and Digital Realty, have announced a long-term agreement to procure energy from the Colbeck’s Corner Wind Farm. The agreement allows Digital Realty to offset 100% of its U.S. colocation and interconnection energy footprint. Colbeck’s Corner is a 200.48 MW wind farm located 37 miles east of Amarillo, Texas. It has 112 GE 1.79-100 turbines that can create enough electricity to power approximately 64,000 homes. E.ON has developed more than 3GW of wind projects in the US since 2005.

Siemens And Pattern Combine For Major Wind Power Plant In New Mexico And Texas

Siemens (Wind Power and Renewables Division) has agreed with Pattern Energy Group LP to deliver, install and service a total of 141 wind turbines for the Broadview Wind project. The project combines two adjacent projects in New Mexico and Texas with a total installed capacity of 324 megawatts (MW). Siemens Financial Services Division will provide loans for the project totalling nearly $100m. The project is expected to supply about 180,000 average U.S. homes and Siemens is expected to commence installation this month.
