HUSUM Wind and Intersolar are forming a strategic partnership in one of the key global renewable markets. India has huge potential for renewable energy, and the Indian government has set ambitious targets for the expansion of wind and solar energy in the years ahead. An additional 4-6GW of capacity is projected for 2016, which would put India in 4th place among the world’s top solar markets. The expansion targets for wind energy are just as ambitious, with the goal of adding 4.1GW within the same time period.

Turkish Hospital Powered By High Performance Solar Power Wins ICCI Energy Award

The PV plant of the university hospital was awarded due to its model character, its good performance and its contribution to the regional development of the eastern Anatolian province Malatya. Inaugurated in 2015, it has accounted for around one-third of the electricity consumption of the university clinic, that is fully ventilated, heated and cooled by air-conditioning systems. 22,177 Jinko modules are installed. Total costs were 6.4 million Euro. 85 percent were covered by a 7-year bank loan and 15 percent through the general state budget.

Mexico: Envision and ViveEnergia Awarded PPC For 90MW Wind Farm

Envision Energy, the world’s leading smart energy solution provider, and ViveEnergia, a Mexican company developing renewable energy projects, were awarded a long-term power purchasing contract with the Mexican Federal Electricity Commission (CFE). The strategic agreement signed in 2015 between Envision and ViveEnergia represented China’s largest direct investment in Mexico in the sector.

EU-India Summit: Added Impetus For EU and India Strategic Partnership

The EU and India decided to step up their cooperation to fight climate change and adopted the ‘Joint Declaration between the EU and India on a Clean Energy and Climate Partnership’. It is key to the implementation of the Paris Agreement and triggers a renewed climate dialogue with India. It intends to reinforce energy cooperation, mainly on renewable energy sources, promote clean energy generation and increased energy efficiency. It will bring together relevant stakeholders, including the EU Member States and the Indian States creating business and technology opportunities between the EU and India.

Thailand: Trina Solar Begins PV Production With 700MW Annual Cells Capacity

The manufacturing facility is located in Rayong, Thailand and Trina Solar has also secured $143m in financing agreements with Siam Commercial Bank Public Company Limited (SCB) and China Minsheng Banking Corporation Ltd (CMBC). “The investment in Thailand fits our strategy of prudent capacity expansion in select overseas markets to deliver industry-leading products to customers in the US and Europe in particular as we strive to increase the profitability of the company,” said Mr. Jifan Gao, Chairman and CEO of Trina Solar.

As European Solar PV Installations Slow, China, US, Japan Surge Ahead

Five countries; China, the United States, Japan, Germany and Italy will account for 70 percent of global installed PV capacity, projected to be 310GW at the end of 2016. A substantial increase from 40GW at the end of 2010. Continued stagnation of major European PV markets due to weaker financial incentives has caused PV additions in Europe to slow dramatically in recent years, but global demand remains strong. IHS says, “the supply chain continues to benefit from a period of relatively stable pricing, and there could be a new wave of capacity expansions.”

New Energy Storage System Introduced To Improve South Korean Grid Reliability

Kokam’s 56MW energy storage project features the world’s largest lithium NMC Energy Storage System for Frequency Regulation. New 24MW and 16MW energy storage systems will use the Ultra High Power Lithium-ion NMC technology to deliver high-power output, fast recharging and long-cycle life to Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). Kokam batteries were also used in the Solar Impulse, the first plane to attempt to circle the earth using only solar power.
