The Blyth Offshore Demonstrator project will produce enough low-carbon electricity to power approximately 34,000 UK households, using 8.0MW wind turbines with a power mode uprating them to 8.3MW. It will save around 57,600 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year and is the first offshore wind project to connect using 66kv rated cables. It’s also the first time that a “float and submerge” gravity-based foundation (GBF) has been used for offshore wind turbines. Each GBF is made up of more than 1,800m3 of concrete and weighs over 15,000 tonnes when fully installed on the seabed, and the structures have a total height of around 60 metres from the base to the access platform.

GE Renewable Energy Unveils Its Largest Onshore Wind Turbine

GE Renewable Energy has unveiled its brand-new 4.8–158 onshore wind turbine, equipped with a 158-meter rotor and a range of tip heights up to 240 meters. The combination of a larger rotor and tall towers enables the turbine to take advantage of higher wind speeds and produce more energy. The latest turbine also features high tech blades, improved loads and controls, and taller, more cost-effective towers. The innovative features have been developed in close partnerships with LM Wind Power, Blade Dynamics and GE’s Global Research Center.

Methanol ‘Green’ Fuel Cell Has Potential To Transform Large Scale Transport

Earlier this week, the MS innogy commenced operations for green tours on the beautiful Lake Baldeneysee. The passenger vessel, is the first in Germany to be powered by methanol fuel cells, is a part of innogy’s “greenfuel” project where they demonstrate the entire value chain of environmentally friendly methanol, from a green production of methanol using CO2 from the surrounding air, green electricity, and water, to the use of methanol as a fuel in the excursion vessel and in cars, ships, and aircraft. The demonstration took place in Essen – this year’s “Green Capital of Europe” and went hand in hand with the ambitious transition the city is undergoing in reinventing itself as a “Green City”.

Paradigm Shift For Fueling Transportation? Innogy Presents Alternative To Oil

The energy revolution is now also picking up speed in transportation. In the “Green Capital of Europe-Essen 2017”, MS innogy was christened and put into operation as a regular passenger vessel. It’s powered by an environmentally friendly methanol fuel cell. The energy required for the whole operation comes entirely from renewables. Next Generation Of Methanol Fuel Cell Vehicles See The Light Of Day

With the aim to develop a cost efficient and environmentally friendly vehicle, the Danish methanol fuel cell manufacturer SerEnergy is now launching a commercial reformed methanol fuel cell vehicle with a driving range up to 800 km on a tank of methanol. The engineers and mechanics at SerEnergy’s mobility development centre, located in Aalborg, Denmark, has developed a reformed methanol fuel cell (RMFC) vehicle based on the Nissan e-NV200 electric car platform, a car that is being sold in large numbers worldwide.

SolarEdge Launches Fastest EV Charging Technology; Combining Grid With PV Power

SolarEdge Technologies, Inc., has unveiled the world’s first inverter-integrated electric vehicle (EV) charger. By supplementing grid power with PV power, the new Level 2 EV charger offers charging up to six times faster than a standard Level 1 charger with its innovative solar boost mode. The company’s HD-Wave inverter, once integrated with an EV charger, will not only provide the existing management and monitoring of solar production, but will also enable EV charging from a single inverter and dashboard. The combined solution also results in considerable cost savings on both hardware and labour.

ABB Innovation Integral To The World’s Largest Floating Solar Plant Test-bed

Land scarcity has severely limited Singapore’s adoption of solar power, so the city-state, surrounded by water, has looked to floating solar panels as a viable alternative. Floating solar panels can be 11% more efficient than solar panels placed on precious land. ABB is providing critical components on a landmark 1MW floating solar photovoltaic test-bed. It measures 1 hectare or 1.5 football fields. The energy generated will be fed into the national energy grid, providing electricity for up to 250 households.

Mercedes-Benz Energy and Vivint Solar have announced an exclusive strategic collaboration to bring the Mercedes-Benz customizable home energy storage system to the US. The two companies’ joint offering provides customers with the German engineering and performance of Mercedes-Benz batteries, coupled with Vivint Solar’s expertise in designing, installing and servicing solar energy systems. The storage systems are based on the same Mercedes-Benz automotive-grade battery technology used in its electric and hybrid vehicles.
